Secretary of State R. Kyle Ardoin, a resident of Baton Rouge, was constitutionally appointed in May 2018 after serving as first assistant for eight years. He was elected to the position in December of 2018.
He ascended into the position during a critical time for the office, especially in terms of election integrity, data security and voting machine infrastructure.
Ardoin’s goals include selecting new voting equipment for the state, protecting the security of sensitive voter data, executing the high-profile 2019 Gubernatorial elections and implementing high-tech protections for both the election as well as the commercial sections of the office’s operations.
As a lifelong resident of the State of Louisiana and a native of Ville Platte, Ardoin is an experienced leader with a genuine passion for citizenship and participation. He graduated from Louisiana State University where he majored in political science and minored in speech communications. He brings to the office more than 30 years of experience working in both the private and public sectors.
His successes include starting his own lobbying, issues management and association management business, specializing in health care and educational services representation for more than 14 years. He also has extensive experience in state government having worked for the Louisiana House of Representatives and accepting a gubernatorial appointment to the Capital Area Human Services District as well as the Health Care Reform Commission before his service as first assistant secretary of state. Additionally, he completed a four-year elected term on the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board, and served as executive director for the Concrete and Aggregates Association of Louisiana, Inc.
Civically, Ardoin passionately participated on the Louisiana Board of Directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and remains engaged in fundraising efforts for this cause as a result of his daughter’s diagnosis of Type-1 Diabetes in early 2007. Secretary Ardoin is married to the former Letti Lowe of Port Allen and has a daughter, Abbigale. As a family, they are members of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.
